Gophers, also known as Pocket Gophers because of their cheeky pockets, are common not only in the rural areas, but also in residential neighborhoods, parks, vineyards, orchards and horse pastures.
Gophers are destructive burrowing rodents that can destroy a lawn, landscape or garden if left unchecked. Gophers can cause thousands of dollars in damages to a park, vineyard or orchard looking for food. In pastures, riding arenas, and livestock areas, Gophers leave dangerous holes and thin earth where animals can twist their ankles causing potentially serious injury.
Gophers directly damage the root system of a plant by eating the roots. They also look for and eat worms and grubs.
The best way to address a Gopher problem is gassing their burrows with carbon monoxide. "Gopher Gassing" is effective and humane. Gopher gassing does not pose a risk to animals or children since no poison is left in the ground which could be dug up later.

Gassing gophers, or moles, is an effective method to control and eliminate a gopher or mole infestation in a yard, lawn, landscape, pasture, orchard, winery, baseball field, soccer field or park. I also recommend a gassing service for ground squirrels as well.
A severe pocket gopher problem sometimes requires an overkill approach. In this yard, I set multiple traps in the gopher tunnels. Then gassed the burrow and tunnel system.
